What is your job at CampusLIVE?
Operations. I work right next to my brother. And we utterly destroy together.
What brought you to CampusLIVE?
Hard work and dedication. I interned unpaid for about a year and a half to land a job with the company. I recognized that I couldn't just get a position because of my brother so I put in the work. I worked full time unpaid for my entire Senior year in college, only leaving to go to class and then coming right back.
Do you have any favorite stories from your work life?
I think my favorite memories from CampusLIVE have to be infiltrating campus buildings and putting business cards and door hangers on tens of thousands of doors. We spent days climbing stairs, and running down hallways having amazing awkward conversations with strangers. I'll never forget how much hard work it takes to gorilla market a web product.
What does the typical day look like for you?
I get into the office and get settled in. Throw in my headphones and start hitting up whatever project I had leftover from the day before. I'm an overall utility player. Operations cover all the departments at CampusLIVE. I do graphics, and can help the graphics team with anything they have. I'm also here to support any of the other departments. I've done sales calls for the sales guys, site design for the dev team, build challenges, and marketed both through email campaigns and on the ground. I'm really here to help assure that all the departments of CampusLIVE are functioning and working together as smoothly as possible.
Why do you come to work in the morning?
I can't describe how fortunate I feel to have a job that I love. I get to hang out all day with my friends, and work on a product that is changing the way people consume content and interact with brands. It's exciting and I love learning everything that Ryan my brother and the team teach me. A few years ago I was not at all interested in the tech or web industry, I thought I was going to be a journalist and go into politics. But everyday I learn how to be a better businessman and I hope to someday own my own companies that I'm passionate about.
What lessons has your work life taught you?
Working at CampusLIVE has shown me how hard work pays off. I am well respected at the company because people know that I'll stay up for 4 days if I have to get something done. I've also learned how important it is to create and foster lasting relationships and have meaningful conversations.
What advice would you give someone who is interested in pursuing a similar line of work?
Owning your own company will be the greatest experience of your life. Don't work for money, make money work for you. Don't get stuck working a job just to make money and survive. Do something you love, figure out a way to make an income off of it, and continue to learn and grow. And help the world in some way, give back.
What is the best part of working at CampusLIVE?
Everyone is answering this question by saying that they love the CampusLIVE team. And I'm no different. I love the team we've built. I love the passion that everyone feels about the company and team work. I love being surrounded by motivated people who want to climb to the top of their industry. We all see CampusLIVE as a learning experience and something we will cherish for the rest of our lives. I don't ever want it to end.
What's the coolest thing you've accomplished thus far working at CampusLIVE?
I'm really proud of the work I've done iterating our project. I've always played a large role in site iterations, literally laying out site design and key features. When we went social network I designed profiles similar to those being used at Facebook which was incredibly complex and an intricate learning experience. And when we transitioned to the current challenge model I played a big role in designing our progression of challenge steps. I've got the original mockups for the site that I designed on my computer, and it's cool to look back and say "I helped make something that's now worth millions and millions of dollars."
