What is your job at CampusLIVE?
VP of Sales. I am responsible for driving the revenue, business development, and client services functions of the company.
What brought you to CampusLIVE?
I learned some incredible things with the large corporations I had worked with (Boston Beer Company, Mass Mutual, Vector Marketing) but the chance to build out and grow a company with disruptive business model was one I could not turn down. I saw the passion and determination the team had and knew it was the right place for me.
Do you have any favorite stories from your work life?
I studied in Spain for 5 months while in school. I always wanted an opportunity to use it in my work life. One day, we got a call from a client who only spoke Spanish. Someone handed the phone to me and after a 20 minute conversation (in Spanish) I closed the deal. Another story is one of persistence. I identified Dunkin' Donuts as the perfect fit brand for our company. After two years we are now working with one of my personal favorite brands.
What does the typical day look like for you?
Client, clients, and more clients. Each day brings new challenges and requests. An average day will include 2-3 client meetings, a good chunk of time developing campaign concepts, some time working with the rest of the sales team, catching up on email, and oh yeah a game of ping pong or foosball.
Why do you come to work in the morning?
I love what we do and I am passionate about what we are building as a team. Working for an organization where your personal impact is seen immediately is one of the more gratifying work experiences you can have.
What lessons has your work life taught you?
Follow your passion. I could never wake up every day and go to a job I wasn't passionate about. I will be sure to stay true to this lesson for the length of my career. Working in a startup is a roller coaster; you will have some of the best and worst days of your life. That being said, if you love what you are doing it is well worth the ride.
What advice would you give someone who is interested in pursuing a similar line of work?
Seek out a company that you truly believe in. To become a true consultant for your clients you must have 100% confidence in the products that you are offering. Don't be afraid to start at the ground level and work your way up. Consistently exceed the expectations that are given to you and you will quickly ascend your responsibilities and role in your organization.
What is the best part of working at CampusLIVE?
Tough one, because there is so much goodness here. However, the best part of working here would have to be watching the evolution of a company transform in front of your own eyes. Seeing how far we have come in two years is impressive but it is nothing compared to what we are going to accomplish over the next two years.
What's the coolest thing you've accomplished thus far working at CampusLIVE?
Another story of evolution. When I first joined CampusLIVE our advertising product was an interactive directory sold to local merchants around a college town. After studying the digital advertising model as a whole, we identified a huge market opportunity for a new type of media. Through hard work and iteration we successfully built and brought to market a working version. Flash forward and our products are now being used by some of the world's premier brands across a number of high impact industries.
